PSHE & RSE

At Abbey School, PSHE and RSE are an embedded part of our broad and balanced curriculum. Pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development is at the heart of our school ethos. British Values are promoted through the overarching aims and objectives of PSHE by supporting our children to become healthy and responsible members of society, as well as preparing them for life and work in modern Britain.

In line with the PSHE Association recommendations, our curriculum develops skills and attributes such as resilience, self-esteem, risk-management, team-working and critical thinking in the context of three core themes: Health and Wellbeing, Relationships and Living in the Wider World. RSE is an integrated part of our developmental PSHE education programme which comprehensively covers the statutory health education and relationships education guidance. If you have any questions regarding the teaching of PSHE or RSE please contact Mrs Folkes via the school office. The programme of study for PSHE and RSE is attached below.

The Equality Act became law in 2010. It covers everyone in Britain and protects people from discrimination, harassment and victimisation. Everyone in Britain is protected. This is because the Equality Act protects people against discrimination because of the protected characteristics that we all have. More information about the protected characteristics and how they are taught in school can be found in the three documents below. RSE Policy
